The first six characters of a DWG file tell you which format it was saved in.

Frequently asked questions
Can I open a DWG file without AutoCAD?
Yes. Pick the file on this page and it opens in your browser. No AutoCAD, no plug-in and no account are needed.
Is my drawing uploaded to a server?
No. The DWG is decoded inside your browser. Only the decoder is downloaded the first time; your file never leaves your device.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. Open this page in Safari or Chrome, tap Choose DWG file and pick the drawing from Files. Very large drawings open more reliably in a desktop browser.
Why won't my DWG file open?
The file may be damaged, renamed from another format, or too large for the device memory. When you pick a file, the viewer shows its DWG version first; if it says the format could not be recognized, check the file itself.
Can I convert DWG to PDF?
Open the drawing and use Save PDF in the markup tools. It saves the current view with your notes. For a vector plot, use the plot function of a CAD program.
Which DWG versions are supported?
Drawings saved by AutoCAD 2000 and later generally open. The viewer shows the saved version, such as "AutoCAD 2018 or later (AC1032)", as soon as you pick a file.
What does not display correctly?
This is a 2D model-space preview of basic lines, circles, polylines and single-line text. SHX fonts, hatches, multiline text, dimensions and external references may look different or be missing.
